The time has finally arrived for all Southampton fans to see what the new home and away kits would look like for their Premier League return. There had been rumours of various fantasy designs for the home kit and now all of the fans know the final product.
Southampton
have gone from the traditional red and white striped shirts to a pin-striped
template developed by the kit sponsor Umbro. The home kit, which is lead in the
centre by striker Rickie Lambert, is predominantly red with white pinstripes
whereas the colours have swapped roles on the away kit. It is a massive transition however I can see what the club have done in using the traditional colours for the separate kits. My first reaction to the home kit was that it had too much red where all Saints fans have been used to red and white strips, not an all red kit when they play at home. I have bought every home shirt since I started supporting the club back in 1998 and that trend will definitely continue as it's all about getting behind the lads as we all look forward to the first match back in the Premier League away at Manchester City on August 18th. The away kit looks really brings style and flair to it when Saints will travel to the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal wearing the all white kit. Last season's yellow and blue away kit was a popular hit with the fans and it's assured that this coming season's version will definitely admire the fans.
As always on "And It's All Southampton FC!", I have asked Southampton fans for their opinions on the matter where there has been a mixed reaction on Twitter:
@AJH_Worksupport: "If it were concept art, red and white theme works well. The away delivers more on the style front."
@ConnorArmstrong: "A step away from the usual. But a classy step away."
@cherryjynx: "Don't like it, bring back the stripes."
@liamtrevatt: "Terrible."
@CharlieBrownSFC: "I am very happy with the new kit designs, I prefer the away one! They both look modern and will hopefully bring a good season."
@RoryODriscoll: "Not a fan, didn't realise we were the new Liverpool."
