Nigel Adkins has been sacked as Southampton manager after two-and-a-half years at the club. His replacement is former Espanyol coach Mauricio Pochettino who joins on a two-and-a-half year deal.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for Jason Puncheon during his Southampton career. It was a possibility that Saints fans would never see him play in the famous red and white stripes again, after his controversial outburst at executive chairman, Nicola Cortese, on the social media site, Twitter. Since his reprieve by Cortese back in January, Puncheon has certainly repaid the Italian and manager Nigel Adkins for his performances so far this season.

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has assured fans that his future at the club is safe despite his side’s poor start to the new season. Adkins has been the favourite to be the first Premier League manager to be sacked among the bookmakers as Southampton are currently routed to the bottom of the table after ten matches. The 2-0 defeat at West Brom on Bonfire Night was the latest result to increase the pressure on Adkins, where it caused chairman Nicola Cortese to have crunch talks with the Liverpudlian the following day.

Pressure Increases On Adkins After West Ham Defeat

Southampton manager, Nigel Adkins, is under huge pressure after watching his side crash to a 4-1 defeat at West Ham on Saturday. After a goalless first half (where the visitors were in the ascendancy), the Saints conceded two goals in three minutes; firstly from Mark Noble's free-kick and the second from a tap-in by Kevin Nolan. Adam Lallana scored for the Saints. However, Noble scored from the spot ten minutes later before Modibo Maiga finished the scoring late on. 

Puncheon Apologises For Twitter Rant

Southampton midfielder Jason Puncheon has been given a second bite of the dust at the club after a disciplinary meeting with chairman Nicola Cortese. The 25-year-old publicly criticised Cortese on the social networking site Twitter to establish his views on his current situation at the club. Since then, the slate has been wiped clean between the pair and Puncheon vows to get the Saints back to the Premier League. “When I signed here I said that within the three-and-a-half years on my contract that I wanted to get this club promoted to the Premier League. That has always been the case and I will do everything I can to make that happen this season.”
