Fan Interview: West Bromwich Albion

This weekend sees Southampton take on West Bromwich Albion at St. Mary’s where both teams have had a fantastic season to date. In the reverse fixture, the Baggies secured a 2-0 win on Bonfire Night which left the Saints on four points from their first 10 matches. A lot of events have happened since then and now only six points separates the two clubs in the table. A win for Mauricio Pochettino’s men could almost secure another season in the Premier League as well as increasing their current unbeaten run which stands at six games.

Ahead of the match, I’ve asked a West Brom fan on his views and the representing the Baggies is Daniel Cannon. He has been a lifelong fan of his beloved Baggies and is a season ticket holder at The Hawthorns. His first game was when he was five-years-old where he saw West Brom beat Bury 1-0 in 1999. Welcome to “And It’s All Southampton FC!” Dan!

Rodriguez Making Progress Under Pochettino

When Jay Rodriguez signed for Southampton last summer for a then record fee of £7m, a lot was expected of him after a terrific campaign in the Championship for Burnley. Nigel Adkins saw the ability in the 23-year-old which could help his attacking options as the club were preparing for life back in the Premier League. Despite a disappointing start to the season, Rodriguez has turned into the player that his fee represents since Mauricio Pochettino has come into the club.

An Interview with ReadingFC__News

This Saturday sees a big six-pointer at the Madjeski Stadium between Reading and Southampton where it has the makings of a cracker. The two teams met back in December where the Saints won 1-0 thanks to Jason Puncheon’s strike and there has been a lot that has happened since the previous fixture. Ahead of the match, I decided to get a Reading fan’s viewpoint of their season so far.

Introducing ReadingFC___News; who runs an unofficial Twitter account dedicated to the Royals with the latest news at the club. He has been supporting Reading for 20 years now where he has seen a lot of ups and downs at the during that time.

Southampton Reflect On An Amazing 2012: Part One

The year of 2012 has seen plenty of memorable sporting action for everyone to talk about for years to come. It was no different for Southampton Football Club. The Saints enjoyed a superb second half to the 2011/2012 season by securing their second consecutive promotion to the Premier League. It would be the first time in seven years, that the club would play in the top flight of English football and so far, it has been a mixed campaign for Nigel Adkins. Despite this, the Saints are gathering some form which can only bring positives into the New Year.

Jason Adds the Punch to the Squad

It has been a rollercoaster ride for Jason Puncheon during his Southampton career. It was a possibility that Saints fans would never see him play in the famous red and white stripes again, after his controversial outburst at executive chairman, Nicola Cortese, on the social media site, Twitter. Since his reprieve by Cortese back in January, Puncheon has certainly repaid the Italian and manager Nigel Adkins for his performances so far this season.

Saints Come Out On Top In El Sackico

Southampton secured their first away points of the season with a 3-1 win at fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers. The Saints took a deserving lead through Rickie Lambert heading into an empty net before Jason Puncheon’s curling effort doubled the visitors’ lead on the stroke of half-time. Summer signing Junior Hoillet pulled a goal back for QPR just after the interval. However, Nigel Adkins men finally killed the game off late on when Morgan Schneiderlin’s cross caused defender Anton Ferdinand to turn the ball into his own net.

‘Cortese has his full backing’ – Nigel Adkins

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has assured fans that his future at the club is safe despite his side’s poor start to the new season. Adkins has been the favourite to be the first Premier League manager to be sacked among the bookmakers as Southampton are currently routed to the bottom of the table after ten matches. The 2-0 defeat at West Brom on Bonfire Night was the latest result to increase the pressure on Adkins, where it caused chairman Nicola Cortese to have crunch talks with the Liverpudlian the following day.

Pressure Increases On Adkins After West Ham Defeat

Southampton manager, Nigel Adkins, is under huge pressure after watching his side crash to a 4-1 defeat at West Ham on Saturday. After a goalless first half (where the visitors were in the ascendancy), the Saints conceded two goals in three minutes; firstly from Mark Noble's free-kick and the second from a tap-in by Kevin Nolan. Adam Lallana scored for the Saints. However, Noble scored from the spot ten minutes later before Modibo Maiga finished the scoring late on.

Southampton Face A Reality Check

Every Southampton fan had been looking forward to the new season in the Premier League for the first time since 2005. After an incredible and brave performance in the 3-2 defeat to Manchester City, the Saints were given a reality check on Saturday in their first home match of the season, by losing 2-0 to Wigan. Many fans, including myself, were thinking that Southampton would get their first points of the campaign. However, a classy performance from Wigan showed the Saints what it takes to establish themselves as a top flight club. It doesn't get any easier for Southampton, as their next two fixtures are really challenging with a home game against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon before travelling to Arsenal two weeks later.

It is a tough start for the Saints however the fans will be glad to be back where they feel the club belongs.

El Clasicoast Part II Is Almost Here

The wait for the 215th South Coast Derby is almost over. It could be one of the most important derbies to date concerning where Southampton and Portsmouth will play their football next season. Since the 1-1 draw at Fratton Park back in December, there have been numerous happenings at the two clubs with Saints flying high at the top of the Championship and Pompey lingering in the relegation zone after a 10 point deduction for going into administration. This is the fixture that every Saints and Pompey fan would have looked for when the fixtures were released last June and now El Clasicoast Part II is on the horizon.

The hard work begins now for Southampton as the season now heads into the penultimate month of the season. It was a very good February for the current Championship leaders picking up an impressive 11 points out of an available 15 which included a vital draw at West Ham and comfortable victories against Derby and Watford. The games come thick and fast as Nigel Adkins and his team gear up for an exciting and vital period at the club with only 13 games left before the season ends on April 28.

Southampton have announced the signing of Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the Saints to bolster their attacking options as they continue to show their ambition of returning to the Premier League. Puncheon Apologises For Twitter Rant

Southampton midfielder Jason Puncheon has been given a second bite of the dust at the club after a disciplinary meeting with chairman Nicola Cortese. The 25-year-old publicly criticised Cortese on the social networking site Twitter to establish his views on his current situation at the club. Since then, the slate has been wiped clean between the pair and Puncheon vows to get the Saints back to the Premier League. “When I signed here I said that within the three-and-a-half years on my contract that I wanted to get this club promoted to the Premier League. That has always been the case and I will do everything I can to make that happen this season.”

2011: A Year To Remember

What a year it has been for Southampton Football Club! On and off the pitch, the Saints have been breaking records alike during 2011 and are in a great position to emulate Norwich City's achievement of back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League. After an eventful 2010 which included winning the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Wembley and a managerial change which kickstarted their promotion charge, nobody would have predicted the amount of success that would come towards the way of the Saints.
